Diary of a Community Orchard 26/7/18: Beautiful Butterflies & Bees

We have a couple of lovely Buddleia bushes and a bed of English and French Lavender which are attracting an array of beautiful butterflies and a variety of bumblebees.

Here are a selection of photos we managed to take one sunny afternoon up there…

Before starting beekeeping, I didn’t know there were so many different kinds of bumblebee – there’s a real variety in our natural world and a few of them are here in our Orchard.

If you have children, why not try this summer holidays activity in the Orchard – Bee Species ID chart. Download and print it out (or collect one from the info sheets boxes in the Outdoor Classroom), and track down the various bees in there. Then, when it’s completed, email the results to us so we can add them to our diversity database.. It’s great fun and a good way to connect with and learn about our natural world.
